  • Welcoming you back to The Pump Room, Bath

    5 April 2021

We are delighted to welcome back our customers to The Pump Room in Bath from Monday 17 May 2021. As lockdown restrictions ease, we’ll be opening our doors once more to the historic Pump Room, a Georgian treasure in the heart of the historic city.

A visit to the city of Bath would not be complete without Afternoon Tea at The Pump Room, an iconic building that inspired the likes of Jane Austin and Mary Shelley. Built in the 1790s with its Corinthian columns, glittering chandeliers and a spa fountain, it soon became the destination for high society to meet and ‘take the waters’ from the hot springs. The ritual of Afternoon Tea is said to have begun in the 1800s, when the 7th Duchess of Bedford decided there was too long a gap between lunch and supper. Finger sandwiches, scones, tea cakes and a whole world of baked goodies started being created in households across England, and the tradition became firmly rooted in society.

Today over 200 years later, Searcys has a delicious interpretation of Afternoon Tea, with the grand neo-classical style of the Pump Rooms creating the perfect ambience for your visit. On the new menu is Beetroot cured smoked salmon blini with creme fraiche, and savouries including crayfish rolls, Salt beef and gruyere cheese toasties, and a dainty Castlemead chicken and tarragon pie. Sweet selections include Homemade buttermilk scones and a selection of pastries, all enjoyed with a glass of Searcys selected Cuvée Champagne.

    Bath Pump Room

Traditional Pump Room Afternoon Tea with a glass of Champagne starts at £36.50 per person. New for this season, Searcys Champagne Afternoon Tea for two is £99 per person including a bottle of Searcys selected Cuvée Champagne.

Guests will also be serenaded by England’s oldest professional orchestra as they enter the restaurant, with our world-famous classical trio – the first professional orchestra in Britain – completing the atmosphere in the magical Pump Room surroundings.

The morning bakery is open for coffees and also includes the traditional Bath Buns served with cinnamon butter. Guests can also enjoy Searcys Champagne Brunch, where classic dishes such as Poached eggs with smoked salmon and Hollandaise sauce on a toasted muffin are washed down with a chilled glass of Searcys Champagne Bucks Fizz.

    Searcys Champagne Brunch          10.00am – 12 Noon
