Searcys partner with Richard Corrigan to relaunch The Portrait Restaurant at the National Portrait Gallery
12 April 2023Searcys is extremely proud to announce our partnership with Richard Corrigan to relaunch The Portrait Restaurant at the National Portrait Gallery, reopening its doors following a major refurbishment and transformation this summer.
The new destination restaurant and bar will open on the top floor of the Gallery, in an intimate space with panoramic views that take in Trafalgar Square and the Houses of Parliament. “I’ve long been a lover of the National Portrait Gallery and the exquisite art that hangs here. It’s one of London’s iconic art galleries! Any chef would give their right arm to cook in such an historic building so for me to be opening a restaurant, under the same roof as all this world-class art, well, it’s truly a privilege.” Richard Corrigan, Chef, Corrigan Collection.
In true Richard Corrigan style, menus will showcase only the best of British and Irish ingredients. The Irish chef, who champions British and Irish produce as well as wild fish in his restaurants, will take inspiration from some of his most memorable dishes in his culinary career, re-introducing forgotten classics to the gallery guests. Expect delights from the sea and land, artisanal smokeries and of course Irish soda bread from the Bentley’s bakery.
The bar will focus on vibrant wines and classic cocktails to enjoy alongside an all-day bar menu with snacks such as the Crispy Oyster Croque Monsieur – a personal favourite of Richard’s alongside a cold glass. Apart from the main restaurant offering, there will also be a chef’s counter and an alternative afternoon tea offering which will see aperitivos paired with bar snacks.
Richard is excited to rekindle his partnership with Searcys. With our extensive experience launching restaurants and fine dining experiences in some of the UK’s most notable venues, including The Gherkin, Barbican Centre and St Pancras International, we will work with Richard and the Corrigan Collection team on bringing his renowned hospitality to one of London’s most iconic galleries.
“We are honoured to be working alongside the world-renowned National Portrait Gallery as it reopens its doors this June. With over 175 years’ experience in London’s vibrant hospitality scene, we are delighted to be working in partnership with Richard Corrigan on the launch of The Portrait Restaurant, marrying the culinary world with visual art. We can’t wait to welcome our first guests this summer.” Paul Jackson, Managing Director, Searcys
