  • Doughnut Recipe

    INGREDIENTS

    • 700g strong white bread flour
    • 400ml milk
    • 50g butter
    • 20g salt
    • 50g sugar
    • 1 egg
    • 1 packet dried yeast

    Method:

    • Place the flour and the butter in a bowl and rub together
    • Add the salt, sugar and dried yeast and mix
    • Slightly warm the milk and whisk the egg
    • Make a well in the flour and pour in the milk
    • Add the egg and mix thoroughly to form a dough, if the dough is to wet add a little more flour
    • Turn out onto a lightly floured work surface and knead thoroughly for 10 minutes
    • Return the dough to the bowl, cover with cling film and leave in a warm place until the dough has doubled in size
    • Turn the dough out onto the work surface and cut to size, this should make approx. 24 doughnuts.
    • Roll the doughnuts into balls.
    • Leave the rolled-out balls under a damp cloth to prove for another 45 minutes
    • Heat the fryer to 180 degrees and fry the doughnuts 6 at a time, moving constantly with a metal spoon until golden brown
    • Remove from the fryer, drain off any excess fat and toss in caster sugar.
    • Can be served hot with a variety of sauces of jams
