Doughnut Recipe

Cooking time – 5 minutes
INGREDIENTS
- 700g strong white bread flour
- 400ml milk
- 50g butter
- 20g salt
- 50g sugar
- 1 egg
- 1 packet dried yeast
Method:
- Place the flour and the butter in a bowl and rub together
- Add the salt, sugar and dried yeast and mix
- Slightly warm the milk and whisk the egg
- Make a well in the flour and pour in the milk
- Add the egg and mix thoroughly to form a dough, if the dough is to wet add a little more flour
- Turn out onto a lightly floured work surface and knead thoroughly for 10 minutes
- Return the dough to the bowl, cover with cling film and leave in a warm place until the dough has doubled in size
- Turn the dough out onto the work surface and cut to size, this should make approx. 24 doughnuts.
- Roll the doughnuts into balls.
- Leave the rolled-out balls under a damp cloth to prove for another 45 minutes
- Heat the fryer to 180 degrees and fry the doughnuts 6 at a time, moving constantly with a metal spoon until golden brown
- Remove from the fryer, drain off any excess fat and toss in caster sugar.
- Can be served hot with a variety of sauces of jams
