Christmas Events Insights from Beth, Events Manager at The Pump Room
14 September 2026At Searcys, we know that creating exceptional Christmas celebrations doesn’t happen overnight. Behind every party, every beautifully dressed dining table and unforgettable New Year’s Eve celebration is months of planning, creativity and dedication.
We sat down with Beth, Events & Marketing Manager at The Pump Room in Bath, to discover what goes on behind the scenes and why Christmas remains the most magical time of year at one of Britain’s most iconic event venues.
Planning for Christmas Starts Earlier Than You Think
People often ask Beth when Christmas planning begins at The Pump Room.
“The truth is, it never really ends. As soon as we’ve packed away the decorations after New Year’s Eve, I’m already setting dates and planning for the following festive season. Then comes menu development, entertainment bookings, photoshoots and countless details behind the scenes that all come together in December.”
For Beth, the extensive planning is all part of the excitement. “Honestly, I wouldn’t have it any other way.”

A Christmas Celebration Like No Other
Christmas holds a special place in Beth’s heart, not only because it is her favourite time of year, but because The Pump Room offers guests a truly unique setting in which to celebrate.
As Bath’s original purpose-built venue for social gatherings, The Pump Room has been at the centre of the city’s celebrations for centuries. Positioned above the Roman Baths, the venue is steeped in history and atmosphere.
“When you stand here, you can’t help but think about the thousands of celebrations that have taken place within these walls,” says Beth. “From Roman rituals and Georgian balls to modern Christmas parties, people have come together here to mark special moments for generations.”
“It sometimes feels as though the party spirit is built into the stones themselves.”
During the festive season, the venue takes on an even greater sense of enchantment. As darkness falls, gas torches illuminate the Roman Baths below, their reflections dancing across the water. Inside, the glow of the magnificent chandelier creates an atmosphere of warmth and elegance, enhanced by beautifully dressed Christmas trees and twinkling fairy lights.

Bringing Festive Bath to Life
While many visitors associate Bath with its busy summer season, Beth believes the city truly shines at Christmas.
“The whole city transforms,” she explains. “The Christmas Market turns the centre into something straight out of a storybook.”
The festive period extends far beyond the walls of The Pump Room. Searcys operates a market stall that attract visitors from across the country, with guests regularly queuing for seasonal favourites, including the venue’s much-loved mac and cheese.
Alongside the market, guests can enjoy a festive Champagne Bar overlooking the Roman Baths, serving warming drinks such as mulled wine and hot chocolate, while The Pump Room’s seasonal Afternoon Tea provides another opportunity to celebrate in style.
Between festive dining experiences, private events and ticketed Christmas parties, December is one of the busiest and most exciting months of the year.
“Every day is different,” says Beth. “That’s one of the things I love most about it.”

The Team Behind the Celebrations
While guests experience the magic of the season, Beth is quick to recognise the people who make it all possible.
“What makes me proudest is my team.”
Christmas is one of the most demanding periods in hospitality, requiring meticulous planning, flexibility and an unwavering commitment to guest experience.
“They work incredibly hard to create special moments for every guest who walks through our doors.”
That dedication is reflected in the loyalty of returning guests. Festive events at The Pump Room sell out year after year, culminating in the much-anticipated New Year’s Eve Ball, an event Beth has developed over many years and continues to host personally.
“Seeing familiar faces come back each year is hugely rewarding,” she says. “Some guests have even formed lasting friendships after meeting at our events.”
