  • 175 Years Together, 175 Years of Memories: A call to guests and clients, past and present.

    2 September 2022

Send us your Searcy Memories to win a Searcys dining experience for 4 and a magnum of Searcys Champagne

For exactly 175 years, Searcys have been making memories that last a lifetime. It’s what we do best, and it’s what our founder John Searcy set out to do when he created a new concept – an events catering business in London in 1848.

Weddings, dinner dances, christenings, lavish banquets, birthday parties, Royal coronations and jubilees, and much, much more – these are just some of the occasions we have been organising for our guests for almost 200 years. Then there are the spontaneous ones: a surprise proposal along the romantic concourse at St Pancras Brasserie & Champagne Bar before hopping on the Eurostar, the first date at the top of The Gherkin which blossoms into a beautiful relationship, or the long-awaited Mother’s Day afternoon tea.

One special example comes from our very special customer Mrs Christian Lamb, a WW2 Women’s Royal Naval Veteran who commissioned Searcys to make her wedding cake in 1943. Almost 80 years later, we were delighted to bake her a birthday cake this July to celebrate her 102nd Birthday.

We received this lovely note from Mrs Lamb: “Anniversaries are quite the fashion these days but I feel very flattered to have a wonderful birthday cake from the famous caterers Searcys, who had originally made my wedding cake when I was married in London in 1943 during the war. It was a time when food was in great shortage with so many convoys being sunk, and I saw this as a Wren officer. I also remember the delicious Searcys packed lunches we had at the National Gallery concerts in the Blitz. You might think Searcys would be too busy with their own 175th birthday, which commemorates the opening of John Searcy’s own confectionary business, which is imminent.”

As we celebrate Searcys 175th anniversary this year, we’re calling on you, our team, from years that have past, and present, and our wonderful customers, to share your Searcys memories with us. We want to hear about these special moments that are close to the heart, both recent and decades ago. We’re looking for photos, old menus, receipts, memories and memorabilia of all descriptions. These will be published on our website with your permission. Everyone who sends in their Searcys Memories will be entered into a prize draw, with one lucky customer winning a dining experience for 4 guests at one of your restaurants, with Searcys Champagne, of course.

Please send your photos, old menus, receipts, memories and memorabilia of all descriptions to communications@searcys.co.uk. Competition closing day 10 September 2022. The winner will be announced on Searcys Day, 15 September 2022.
