The Bakery by John Searcy Launches at The Alnwick Garden
We are proud to announce the launch of The Bakery by John Searcy at the Alnwick Garden. From April, we are serving a range of delicious cakes, bakes and light lunches in a welcoming cafe setting.
Searcys was established in 1847 by John Searcy, a former confectioner and baker to the 3rd Duke of Northumberland. Fast forward over 170 years to 2018 and we were appointed as the catering partner to The Alnwick Garden by the current Duchess of Northumberland. We seized the opportunity to create a bespoke Bakery that reflects John’s origins and honours his association with the Percy family. The Bakery by John Searcy celebrates Britain’s rich heritage of cake and bread making. We have created spaces where our customers can enjoy delicious baking and coffee and reflect Searcy’s desire to be both exceptional and hospitable.
Provenance is highly important to us, and we endeavour to source our ingredients as locally as possible. The menu reflects a combination of firm favourites together with some regional signature dishes. Special for The Alnwick Garden is Percy’s Pineapple. Pineapples have a long history with The Alnwick Garden. Not only are they a universal symbol of hospitality but back in the 18th century The Alnwick Garden was one of the first to produce this exotic fruit in England.
In 1825 the 3rd Duke of Northumberland proudly took six beautiful specimens to Paris, to the coronation of the French King, Charles X. To honour this association, we have created the Percy Pineapple, a delicious plump teatime bake bursting with pineapple, cranberries and sultanas.
